Spry Site Supervision Atom Bearcats Win Gold!

The Spry Site Supervision Atom A Belleville Bearcats won their second tournament championship of the year and their third tournament medal this weekend at the Whitby Tournament of Heroes.

Game one versus a talented Brampton team was an exciting back and forth affair.  Goaltenders on both teams held the scorers at bay until through a screen Brampton scored on a laser from the point with only 30 seconds left to earn the win.  Lacey Clement was stellar in the Belleville net.

A physical Oshawa team would be the Bearcats' second opponent.   Jerika Spry scored with a rocket off an offensive zone draw (From Claire Rathwell) to give the Bearcats the lead.   Oshawa answered back to tie the game, but it was Spry with her second  on a tic-tac-toe passing play from Alex Dewar and Rathwell that proved the winner. Bearcats 2 - Lady Generals 1.  Brylie Renaud was fantastic in the Belleville net.

Belleville presses a very strong Nepean team early in game three, but couldn't find a way past their rock solid goaltending.  That all changed in the second period when a Spry shot was deflected by Rathwell to give the Bearcats the lead.   Renaud turned everything shot at the Belleville net aside until a crazy deflection found it way into the net, tying the game.   Bearcats 1 - Wildcats 1

Belleville finished second in their group setting up a knockout game versus the third seed.

As luck would have it, the Bearcats would play Nepean again in a do or die game.  Belleville carried the play, sending wave after wave of shots at the Nepean net.  Finally a Taylor Wood blast from the point found its way through traffic and over the line to give Belleville the lead.   Nepean fought back valiantly, but Clement was unbeatable earning the shutout.   Bearcats 1 - Wildcats 0

Off to the semi-final versus the #1 seed, Ottawa Ice.   The Bearcats dominated play and were rewarded by a goal by Peyton Cormier, assist to Tsyorasehstha Brant.  The Bearcats continued to press before taking a penalty with 2:00 minutes left in the third.   A double deflection would beat Clement and tie the game with only a minute remaining.   Nothing would be solved in the final 60 seconds and the teams were off to overtime.  Again, a penalty would be called against Belleville, but this group never gives up.   Short a player and fighting to stay alive Spry took a pass from Rowynn Cochrane before sending Peyton Cormier streaking down the wing.   Cormier, skated past two Ottawa defenders before ripping a shot just under the bar to win the game and send the Bearcats into the finals.

The Bearcats would meet a familiar foe in the finals, the Oshawa Lady Generals who knocked off the powerhouse team from Brampton to earn their chance at gold.

By the time the game was five minutes old the Bearcats had already taken a 2-0 lead on goals from Tori Neuman (assists to Annaka Hoover and Dylan Trickey) and Cormier (assists to Jenna Nieman and Ainsley Phillips).  The Bearcats would pepper the Oshawa net the rest of the way, but it was the Lady Generals who would score on the powerplay with only one minute left in the game.   It was too little, too late and Belleville skated away with the 20th anniversary Tournament of Heroes Championship.  Clement was brilliant in the Belleville net.

The Spry Site Supervision Atom A Bearcats would like to thank their sponsor and their parents for supporting their team this year.
