Bearcat House Tournament a huge Success!
This past Saturday saw lots of exciting hockey being played at the Annual Belleville Bearcats house League tournament at the Dick Ellis Arena. After two weeks of Round robin play Saturday was the Final round before the Championship games were played for all the hardware.
The Third round for both the Junior and Intermediate Leagues was played in the morning with a Midget AA exhibition game in between the final round and the Divisional Championship games.
In the Junior Division Belleville Dodge.ca played Stephen License for the "B" Division Junior Cup. Belleville Dodge won by a score of 3-2. It was a exciting game. In net for Belleville Dodge was young Chelsea T. And for Stephen License was Katie R. The first period was all it could be and more with exceptional saves made by both goalies but it stilled remained all tied up at 1-1. Only two goals were scored in this period. Chelsea T. made exceptional saves on three separate break aways. While Katie R. stood strong between the pipes stopping multiple shots by the advancing Belleville Dodge.
The third Period was the again exceptionally fantastic playing from both teams. Stephen License tied it all up at 8:57 mark with a goal by Braedyn I. (assisted by Kaitlynn S. and Allyson S.). Then with mere seconds left in the third period and both teams thinking it was going to go into possible Overtime , Meaghan B. scored with 26 seconds left in the game. The winning goal was assisted by Cassie T. and Julia M.
In the "A" division Final for the Junior Cup, Plumbing Plus and Guthrie Engineering went Head to head and had the Fans standing on the edge of their seats. All season long these two teams have been battling it out for top place. With Victoria W. playing between the pipes for Plumbing Plus. Guthrie Engineering responded with Vanessa B. between theirs.
The First period was Fast and Furious... Jenna B. scored at 11:59 of the period (assisted by Katie N. and Amanda F.) giving Plumbing Plus the lead going into the second period. Both goalies were on their toes with phenomenal saves keeping the game close.
In the Second period, Jenna B.scored her second goal, just 49 seconds into the period (assisted by Madison A. and Emma S.) giving Plumbing Plus a 2-0 lead. At the 4:02 mark of the period Katie R. scored for Guthrie Engineering (assisted by Destinee A. and Danielle L.) leaving Guthrie Engineering down one goal going into the third period.
The third period proved to be too much for Fans. Guthrie Engineering came out fighting and Allison C. managed to get the critical goal they needed to tie up the game at 7:35 (assisted by Payton S.). both goalies were very strong in their nets and making save after save made the fans more and more involved into the play. With a 2-2 tie. the end result was Overtime.....BUT after 5 minutes of overtime .... no goals, to which a Shoot Out was required to determined a winner.
The teams sent two players (one from Plumbing Plus and one from Guthrie Engineering) down the ice upon the respective goalies. Guthrie engineering scored first. Then the next round had no one scoring leaving Guthrie Engineering up 1-0 for the Shootout. The third round had Plumbing Plus tying up the score and making the shootout go to a Sudden Death round. Claire V. Scored the winning goal sliding the puck past the Guthrie Engineering goalie giving Plumbing Plus the win and the Championship.
Belleville Bearcats Intermediate League Showdowns.
Both Divisional games were exciting as all four teams battled it out for their respected Divisional Championship.
In the A Division Fred Just Motors and Hawkins Cheezies went at it head to head. The game was outstanding as both goalies Stephanie S.for Fred Just Motor's and Sydnie C. for Hawkins Cheezies made spectacular saves for their respected clubs. Hawkins Cheezies played their best against Fred Just Motors. Fred Just Motors defeated Hawkins Cheezies with a score of 4-1. Stephanie S. stood her ground against Hawkins Cheezies allowing only one goal. While her counterpart Sydnie C. allowed 4 goals against a bombardment of shots on her.
In the First period Haley J. of Fred Just Motors scored at the 9: 58 mark from a pass from Maureen L. and Taylor P. Fred Just Motors headed into the second period leading 1-0 when at the 1:42 mark Kaitlyn G. scored off a pass from Haleigh B. and Kadra P. Thus taking a 2-0 lead. Then less than 4 minutes later Kadra P. scored off a pass from Natasha D. to lead Fred Just Motors to a 3-0 lead heading into the third period. The third period turn out to be just as much exciting as the first, with the play going back and forth, when Kaitlyn G. scored into a wide open net at 5:54 of the period from a pass by Kadra P. and Natasha D. Thus giving Fred Just Motors a 4-0 lead. But the Hawkins Cheezies team would not go down without a battle. At the 10:36 of the third period Hawkins Cheezies forward Megan C. scored with assists going to Cassie B. and Regan M.
In the B Division it was a solid, fast pace game. The teams, State Farm Insurance and ScotiaBank fought it out like two race horses racing for the finish line. Again, the Goalies of the game deserve the credit for a remarkable game. Stephanie S. played for ScotiaBank and Sydnie C. for State Farm Insurance. For whom they made spectacular saves during two and third periods.
The game turned out to be all it could be and more, with the play going back and forth. It took three periods before a goal was scored in the game. It came at the 11:27 mark of the periods as Halie B. scored from a pass from Elicia W. The ScotiaBank bench erupted in joyous momentum as the puck slide over the goal line. The reason you may ask is simple for the ScotiaBank team had only won 3 games the whole season. They fought State farm and they brought it all to win this final with heroic plays. Congrats to ScotiaBank on a well deserve win.
A special thanks !!
