Tournament Champions
The Spry Site Supervision Peewee AA Belleville Bearcats started the New Year with a tournament championship.

The Peewee AA Bearcats spent the final weekend of the holidays competing in the New Year's Classic tournament held at the Quinte Sports Complex.

The Cats opened the tournament vs the Sudbury Lady Wolves.  After falling behind 2-0 early the Bearcats roared back, with two goals of their own to tie the game vs a very talented Sudbury team.

Game 2 pitted the Bearcats vs the Mississauga Hurricanes. Once again the Cats found themselves in a hole, down 3-1 after two periods.   The third period was all Belleville as the Bearcats once again found their groove scoring twice and buzzing the Hurricanes net for the entire final frame. The game ended 3-3.

Saturday morning found the Bearcats taking on familiar rivals, the Clarington Flames. The teams played a gritty game, but goaltending would be the story of the game, with neither team able to find the net. Another tie for the Bearcats 0-0 would put them in a must-win position going into their final game of the opening round.

The final opponent of the opening round would be the undefeated Kanata Rangers. The Bearcats offense had found their stride, but so had Kanata.  A wild first period ended 2-2 and nothing was settled in the second. The third period was a win or be eliminated scenario for Belleville, but as they have done all year, they found a way, scoring half-way through the period to take the win 3-2 and guarantee a spot in the semi-finals.

When the dust settled it would be a Belleville vs Sudbury rematch to see who would play for gold.  The teams battled back and forth in what was one of the most even games of the tournament before the Cats struck for a goal in the second period. That would be all they needed as they shut down the Lady Wolves the rest of the way.

The Kanata Rangers undefeated except for their loss to the Bearcats were looking for revenge in the finals. It wasn't to be. The Bearcats came out of the gate with their best effort of the season erupting for two goals in the first eight minutes and adding another early in the second period to go into the third up 3-0. They would never look back taking the game to the Rangers and earning their gold medals with a 3-0 victory.

Trapper and Jelly were absolutely stellar in net giving up only seven goals in six games. Train, Rocket, Rockstar, Ace, Titan and Jedi we dominant on defense, frustrating their opponents and contributing to offense in every game. X-Files, Boogie, Razor, TK, Sensi, Mountain, Pottsy, Hawk and GENO were forces of nature both offensively and defensively. This incredible group has only one loss in their last 11 games.  They take on the Kingston Ice Wolves this Wednesday in Kingston and the Clarington Flames at home (Wally Dever) on Friday.

A huge thank you to the parents, grandparents, siblings and dozens of supporters who came out to cheer these young ladies on.
