Lady Dukes continue their undefeated preseason streak.
Wellington Lady Dukes – Belleville Bearcats U18AA, sponsored by WellBusters, had a busy weekend with a double header Saturday against Ottawa Lady Sens at the Quinte Sports Wellness Centre.

The Lady Dukes were all business as Makenzi Jones found the back of the net 40 seconds into the game with a quick release low shot that surprised the Ottawa net minder, unassisted. Lady Dukes capitalized on the one goal lead with another goal by Jones in the slot, assisted by Kaya Brahaney. With a cushy two goal lead Brahaney stole the puck in the offensive zone as Ottawa was trying to break out and sniped the third goal of the game, unassisted, for a final score of 3-0. Addy Cochrane was stellar in the net for the first shutout of the season.

Second game of the day saw a much faster paced game with Ottawa wanting to answer back. After a scoreless first period Ottawa hit the scoreboard with a goal early in the second to take the lead 1-0. Lady Dukes quickly answered back with a top shelf power play goal by
Brahaney, assisted by Taylor Adams , to tie the game up at ones.  Jones increased the lead when she patiently waited out the goalie in a cross crease deke, assisted by Siyerra Vandewal. Ottawa rifled a shot from the point with seconds left in the game to tie it up for a final score of 2-2. Cassidy Dobson’s amazing saveshelped the team pull off the point.

Sunday the girls faced off against the Kingston Ice Wolves in game two of their home and home series. Kingston opened the scoring in the second period giving them the 1-0 lead after two periods of play. Ice Wolves increased their lead quickly in the third to put the Lady Dukes in an uphill battle. Sydnie Johnston with her fist goal of the season, assisted by Hailey Putnam, cut the lead in half. With 2:23 left in the game Jones scored a shorthanded goal to tie it up, unassisted, to continue the Lady Dukes undefeated preseason streak.
