Patenaude Martial Arts Bantam AA Bolts and Hearts Tournament
The Patenaude Martial Arts Bantam AA Bearcats advanced to the semi finals Sunday morning in the Bolts & Hearts tournament held in Ajax/Pickering over the Family Day weekend. Their first match Friday against Markham-Stouffville started off slow as both teams were trying to find their rhythm. Sydnie Johnston found the top corner, short side after a fantastic rush from her own end to open the scoring and proving to be the game winning goal, assists going to Briseis Hunter and Kaylee Wyngaarden.
Belleville potted an empty netter by Kaya Brahaney, assisted by Hunter to take game one of the day 2-0.Friday afternoons match was against Les Rempants du Richelieu as the Bearcats stepped up their play to meet their opponents in a fast-paced game but came up short dropping the game 2-0. Saturday morning the girls came with their game faces on against Harfangs du Triolet in a very physical match but again fell 2-0 putting the pressure on in game four to have the opportunity to advance. Saturday night hockey at its finest left the fans holding their breath as the Bearcats hit the scoreboard first in period one with another great end to end rush by Jocelyn Masters, assisted by Brahaney against the Scarborough Sharks. Belleville was not done in the first with a precise main street pass by Jen Keller onto Brahaney’s stick as she buried it past the net minder. Scarborough did not make it easy on the girls as they kept the pressure on and closed the gap with a third period goal of their own. Bearcats held on for the 2-1 win earning their berth to the semi-finals on Sunday morning against Durham West. Belleville skated hard Sunday but fell to the Lightning finishing their great weekend of hockey. Amazing performances again by the goal tending duo of Diana Wharton and Addison Cochrane demonstrated to be the final line of defence needed for the Bearcats as the team continues to improve their overall game. The Bearcats start their play down series against the Peterborough Ice Kats Friday February 21st in Peterborough then back home on Saturday the 22nd at the Quinte Wellness Centre, 5:15pm, FDC pad.
